India is the only breeding ground for the Mahseer, the toughest fresh water fighting fish in the world. Angling is restricted to breeding seasons of fishes, as fishes can be protected while they are reproducing. Fishing & Angling In Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh is an excellent destination for fishing and angling. Brown and Rainbow trout are famous all over the world as the best game fish. The Pabbar valley region situated upstream of Rohru has many ideal spots for fishing. Other famous sites are Chirgaon, Seema, Mandil, Sandasu, Tikri and Dhamvari. The Beas River and its side streams like the Sarvari, Parbati, Sainj, Hurla and Tirthan are also good for the fishing sport.

Angling is one of the favourite sports of Assam. Brahamputra river in the state offers enough fishing opportunities. Jia Bhoroli River, Kapili, Manas and Bhalukpung are excellent for angling.

Equipments Required
Basic equipments required for fishing and angling include a barbed metal hook, nylon or Dacron line, rods, spoons and reel. The trolling and casting from the surf are common methods of fishing. For fishing in salt water, one needs heavier rods and reels of the bait-casting type.

In the state of Assam seasonal fishing camps are set up at Potasah, which is near to the town of Tezpur.
