One of the most sought after events during July/ August, is the
Amarnath Yatra to the Holy Pilgrimage. This is an annual event, when
thousands of Hindus from all over the world visit Amarnath caves.
Innumerable pilgrims trek from Pahalgam to these caves and worship the
great ice Lingam.
According to the legend, Lord Shiva recounted to Parvati the secret of
creation in a cave in Amarnath. Both of them were unaware that a pair of
mating doves was listening to the conversation and learned the secret.
Thus, they are reborn again and again, and have made the cave their
eternal abode. According to many pilgrims this doves-pair is seen on the
difficult route to the ice-ligam(the phallic symbol of Shiva), when they
trek. An event that will remain with you for the rest of your life.
