Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary - A Must-see For Bird Watchers Situated on the banks of the picturesque Vembanad Lake, Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is famous all over the world for its avian population. Known as an ornithologist's paradise, the bird sanctuary spreads over an area of 14 acres. Set amidst the lush wooded land, the sanctuary provide the close view of the variety of migratory birds, that come from Himalayas or far places like Siberia. Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is a favourite haunt of migratory birds such as the Siberian Cranes, Egrets, Darters, Herons and Teals. The park also houses large number of local birds like Waterfowls, Cuckoos and Owls. The natural beauty and varied activities of native Kingfishers, Egrets, Herones, Golden-Backed Woodpeckers and acrobatics of the paradise Fly-catchers fascinate the visitors. fauna of the sanctuary mainly include the avian species both resident as
well as migratory birds. Migratory birds which visit the sanctuary every
year are Siberian Cranes, Egrets, Darters, Herons, Parrots, Larks,
Flycatchers, Wood Beetles and Teals. Resident bird species include
